This series has been affected more than most by some of the more variable sailing conditions experienced for a long time. Winds as high 36 knots to no wind at all have been recorded on Wednesday afternoons throughout the winter. Strong winds have resulted in 6 abandoned races whilst light winds have resulted in 6 shortened courses. A gale warning for Port Philip brought about the abandonment of this race, although the actual observations at Fawkner Beacon indicated something less, that is a west south westerly wind of about 20 knots for the afternoon.
