Breakwater

A $500,000 upgrade of Sandringham breakwater, currently underway, will structurally improve the existing rock revetment wall to better withstand future storm events.

The breakwater plays a crucial role in protecting the Sandringham harbour from southwest wind and swell coming off Port Phillip.

It is estimated about 60 to 80 truck and trailer loads are required for this project and they will be transported via Jetty Road and B8 carpark.

Access to the breakwater will be closed for public safety during work hours. 22 parking spaces will also be closed between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm Monday to Friday until the work is finished. A traffic controller will be present at the carpark entrance to safely manage the carpark and rock deliveries.

The works are expected to take two months pending favourable weather and conditions and are expected to be completed by the end of November.

Parks Victoria manages more than 40 piers and jetties around Port Phillip and Westernport. Parks Victoria regularly monitors the condition of piers and jetties and conducts maintenance works throughout the year to ensure continued safe access.

Parks Victoria apologises for any inconvenience caused during the temporary closure.
