Sail Sandy – We need your help!

Friday, 17th August 2018

Our annual OTB Regatta, Sail Sandy, is on again this year on the 13-14 October. This two day regatta offers the perfect opportunity for dinghy and catamaran sailors to dust the cobwebs off their boats after what has so far been a very windy winter…at least on the weekends when everyone wants to go sailing! This year will also see the Victorian Kite Foiling State Championships incorporated into the Sail Sandy Regatta which will add to last year’s 160+ boats and 220+ junior, youth and adult sailors.

The Sail Sandy organising committee’s preparations are well under way and we’re looking for your help to assist with the running of this regatta. Sail Sandy requires the assistance of many volunteers in varying capacities to ensure the weekend runs smoothly and all sailors are provided with their best possible “Sandy experience.” With the regatta spanning over four on water courses and with many on land roles that are required to be filled, there are plenty of options for everyone to get involved in!

An indication of some of the areas we could use your help with could include:

  • Mark Laying
  • Start Boat – Flags
  • Start and Finish boats – Scribing (recording results etc.)
  • Rescue Boat driver and crew
  • Barista for Saturday and Sunday mornings
  • Canteen helpers
  • Registration Office
  • Traffic wardens
  • Ramp assistants (helping boats launch and retrieve their boats!)
  • Beach Marshall

Additionally, given the number of on water support boats that are required to run four courses, if you have a RIB which you would be willing to provide as a rescue boat, that too would be greatly appreciated!

If you are able to assist us with any of the above roles (or in any other capacity you may think could be helpful), we would love to hear from you. If you’re sitting there thinking that you would love to get involved but don’t have any experience, don’t worry, you can still help! For anyone who would be willing to put their hand up for one or both days, please contact James in the Boating Office on [email protected] or phone 9599 0907.
