Recreational Boating June Guest Speaker Wrap Up

Thursday, 13th June 2019

Rod Smallman’s journey to Osaka followed an unusual path. Having set out to build a boat for the race, Rod decided half way through the lead time to the event that his new boat wasn’t going to be ready and so he bought a new one race-ready.

With no ocean racing experience behind them Rod and his son Tyson then set out to learn all they could about sailing and how to get their boat to the finish line. It was a real adventure.

On Wednesday night around 50 people heard Rod’s story at the SYC speaker night and it’s no doubt that most attending were inspired to hear the story. Thanks to Rod for his preparation of an interesting address.
