Wednesday, 8th February saw a large crowd of 65 SYC members and their guests attend the latest Guest Speaker Night in the Port Phillip Room at SYC.
The Presenter was Mark Kinder a former RAN seaman and Vietnam War veteran who delivered a most interesting and very perceptive recounting of the 1969 horrific collision between the HMAS Melbourne and USS Frank E. Evans where 74 lives were lost off the South China Sea. In addition Mark spoke passionately about his service and the RAN’s role in the Vietnam War.
Mark covered his topics in great depth and imparted many and various pertinent facts and figures about the ships and men involved. His photo display was equally fascinating and many attendees enjoyed having further discussions with Mark after his presentation had concluded.
