Recreational Boating Christmas Party

Thursday, 14th December 2017

Wednesday 6th December turned into a great sailing afternoon, then a perfect night to celebrate the beginning of the festive season. The tables were set with Christmas decorations and the chairs out, all that was required was for the Recreational Boating community to turn up. There were drinks to share, sausages, hamburgers, salads, baked potatoes, Christmas carols and the company of fellow SYC members. Everyone joined in the festive spirit and merriment. The food was prepared by the SYC kitchens and the meat cooked and served by the Rec. Boating committee. Many thanks to the members who sweated over the BBQ’s to serve over 140 people. The carols were courtesy of members of the Box Hill Salvation Army. They certainly gave the evening a very festive vibe and many members could be seen humming or tapping along with the familiar tunes. Members showed their appreciation by loud applause and donating to the Salvos Christmas Appeal. After everyone had eaten their fill it was time to draw the raffle. No one can resist George Shaw when he approaches with a book of raffle tickets in hand! With such great prizes who would want to. Fruit and veg boxes donated by Tommy Raft, 2 BBQ’s and several sailing bags from SYC member Phil Simpfendorfer, a HVR voucher to the value of $150 and a wonderful hamper put together by Kate McCutcheon on behalf of the Rec Boating committee.   To top that off there was a Silent Auction for a package to the Kooyong Classic which included a dining and seating package for 4 people. There was very spirited bidding for this item and we know the lucky winner will have a great time at this prestigious event. What a wonderful prize from a Reciprocal club. Thank you to everyone for making the night such a success.
