Rec Boating – Labour Day Weekend Cruise (Queenscliff and out the Heads)

Friday, 12th March 2021

The Labour Day Weekend cruise kicked off on Saturday with 15 boats heading off in initially very light conditions to Queenscliff.

A great trip down was had by all and once safely tied up the large contingent from SYC  (40 plus for the weekend) caught up on the deck at QCYC and viewed a great sunset whilst running through another wonderful Simon Hemingway ‘Quiz’.

Sunday was a great autumn day weather wise with a top temperature of 27 degrees. At this stage the group spilt in two with a group setting sail on Sunday morning out the heads and around to Flinders in Westernport for the night and the remaining group joining up on a few boats and heading over from Queenscliff to the Quarantine Station for a relaxed lunch and afternoon at anchor. This second group then gathered again on Sunday evening back at QCYC for another great evening and then set sail on Monday back to SYC under somewhat dark skies and wet conditions to end the weekend.

Those who headed out to Flinders enjoined a night on anchor in Westernport before setting sail back to QCYC on the Monday, and relaxed sail home to SYC on Tuesday.

As always a very fun weekend / extra long weekend was had by all.

The Rec Boat committee look forward to running another fun cruise on the 17th and 18th of April, this time a short cruise to Docklands, click here to register
