OTB News and Update

Friday, 26th April 2019

Dear OTB sailors and friends,

The past few weeks of the school holidays have been a busy time for many of our OTB sailors and the fantastic Autumn weather has allowed for plenty of great sailing. The Victorian Int Cadet fleet decided to skip the Youth Champs regatta at Blairgowrie this year and a strong fleet of cadets from RGYC and RYCV travelled to SYC for our School Holiday Sprints. Successful Australian Team Coach Tony Bull was invited to coach for the weekend, so we had 17 cadets visit over the 2 day regatta, which included the Victorian contingent of the Australian Team. The wind was around 4 to 6 knots most of the weekend, but we still managed to get 5 x 30 minute races in each day and a few of Tasars and Laser radials joined in on Saturday as well.

The event was won by Mischa Suda and Lillyanne Johnston on Spitfire.

Last weekend many of our OTB families travelled to Metung for our 58th Easter Regatta, it is always a highlight of the season and a great chance for our members to get away together. The weather was fantastic, which allowed the program to go as planned and everyone who made it along had a memorable time, including the Easter Bunny (thanks Ash)! The regatta is a great part of our clubs history and is one that celebrates good sportsmanship, friendship and fun. The main prize is the coveted Handicap Trophy which dates back to 1964 and this year it was won by Rohan and Lavanya Subbarayala on Coldplay. The Mixed Class division was won by Alistair and Tracey Murray and first on scratch in the Cadet Class went to Thomas Johnston and Kylan Thompson on Hyper Hyper, who managed to edge out Spitfire on an equal points and places count back with a win in the final race.

A special thank you must go to Metung Yacht Club for making us feel at home again, Race Organiser Phil Strong for taking care of all the racing along with local Metung Legend Damien Daniels, Peta Davis of Oakdene Wines for providing the magic at the Ladies Cruise and also Nick & Andrea Disney for their great hospitality and use of their beautiful yacht Muneera.

This Sunday we kick off our Winter Series which only includes 5 races days due to the late Easter break, so don’t miss out as it is a long Winter.

We also have JDS coaching on Sunday morning and it is really important that you register if your coming, so we know how many coaches are required.

Kind Regards,

David Suda
OTB Club Captain
