Dear OTB sailors and friends,
Winter has certainly arrived in Melbourne this week, so it is probably a great time to head somewhere warmer like Paul and Bronwyn Ridgway did last week. Our very own World beating Tasar couple took off to the UK to contest their Tasar National Championships at the picturesque Hayling Island Sailing Club not far from Cowes. In a secondhand boat and with only a couple of days to get down to Hayling Island to prepare for competition, they hit the water just in time for the first race which they won! The UK Tasar Nationals attracted 28 boats and Paul and Bronwyn even surprised themselves to finish the event with a perfect score card after drops. Congratulations and best of luck for the rest of your travels and i’m sure this success will give them great confidence ahead of the Tasar World Championships to be held at the same venue from July 27th.
Last Sunday only our bravest sailors turned up for Winter Series racing and thankfully the gale warning issued on Saturday was downgraded to a strong wind warning, so racing could go ahead. Our chief mark layer Nick Rae, became Principle Race Officer and did a fantastic job in preparing and running two races in conditions that sat uncomfortably close to our wind limit all day. Big thanks also to Steve Aulich and our race management team for battling the elements.
Our Winter Series concludes this Sunday afternoon with racing starting at 1pm, so please come down and check your boat is ok after all the wind and rain, then rig up and go racing one last time before the snow arrives!
