Typically if the weather and or the weather forecast are looking ominous, the switchboard gets pretty busy.
As you are aware the decision to postpone or abandon racing remains with the Race Officer. In most instances a decision will not be made until a short time before the advertised ‘start time’ [sometimes it can be up to 30 minutes prior to start time], this enables current conditions and trends to be monitored.
When the weather looks borderline the Race Officer will record a message on the weather phone and you can dial in.
Normal signals made ashore will continue and will take precedence over any advice provided via messaging services.
