Recreational Boating is committed to education and safety as part of their charter. Every second month SYC hold guest speaker evenings on a variety of interesting and informative topics – navigation, debriefs of cruises in company, fishing hints and tips, radio techniques, marine diesel maintenance, and many other topics including combined speaker nights with Sail through the winter months.
Our February Guest Speaker evening is Wednesday 12 February 2020 at 7:30pm in the Port Phillip Room.
Speaker: Rod Keller – Deputy Flotilla Commander- Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Victoria
Rod has been a volunteer with the Coastguard for 10 years, initially at Kingscliff in northern New South Wales and now at Safety Beach.
He has messed about in power boats for 30 years with a background in fishing boats and water skiing. He actually paid for his university studies by working on the beach at Terrigal as one of the first bikini inspectors.
He is also a mechanical engineer with a background in mining and energy.
Rod will be talking about the boats and equipment they use and will discuss some of the rescues they have been involved in.
