Recreational Boating is committed to education and safety as part of its charter. Every second month SYC Recreational Boating hold guest speaker evenings on a variety of interesting and informative topics – navigation, debriefs of cruises in company, fishing hints and tips, radio techniques, marine diesel maintenance, and many other topics including combined speaker nights with Sail through the winter months.
Our April Guest Speaker evening is Wednesday 10 April 2019 at 7:30pm in the Port Phillip Room.
Mal Hart, a shipwright, has been building and racing high performance racing yachts since 1980. Past builds include Scandia, Ichiban, Ausmaid, Volvo boats and many TP 52’s. When the GFC slowed this work right down, Hart Marine, at Mornington, started building pilot boats to a French design. Hart Marine have built over 30 of these “OCR” self righting pilot boats with customers all around Australia and New Zealand. Recently these high tech composite machines have been purchased for police work. From an embryonic start, Hart Marine now employs over 90 people.
Late last year Mal has taken over the Yaringa Boat Harbour in Westernport Bay, a facility well known to many of us. He has big plans for this marina- including deepening and widening the channel!!
Mal Hart is our April Guest Speaker – 7.30 PM on Wednesday April 10 in the Port Philip Room.
