Melbourne Cup Long Weekend Cruise in Company

Experience the adventure of cruising with SYC’s Recreational Boating (power and sail) in their annual Melbourne Cup weekend Cruise in Company!

This year the cruise will see boats departing Sandringham on the morning of Saturday 2 November and returning to Sandringham on Tuesday 5 November to enjoy the afternoon in the Members’ Bar for ‘the race that stops the nation™’! Our Cruise in Company is open to all boats provided they have reasonable on-board accommodation for a few nights.

For our Cup Weekend Cruise, we are returning to Royal Geelong Yacht Club after an absence of several years, before heading up the West side of Port Philip to Wyndham Harbour for the night.

Royal Geelong YC have kindly waived the berthing fees for our two night stay, Saturday November 2 and Sunday November 3. We hope to organise some “entertainment” on the Sunday (details to follow).
Briefing will be on the Saturday at the Ken King Centre at 9AM – prior to departure from SYC. On Monday November 4 we will sail (or motor at high speed) to Melbourne’s newest marina, Wyndham Harbour.
This will enable Melbourne Cup enthusiasts to hop across the bay on Tuesday morning in time for the Melbourne Cup in the Members’ Bar.

This cruise continues the tradition of many many years and is a great opportunity to meet old friends or make new ones.

The cruise will be mostly self catering. At Royal Geelong Yacht Club there are BBQ facilities and many restaurants and cafes nearby. At Wyndham Harbour there is likely to be a café/restaurant and a fish and chippery also.
Don’t forget the annual boat name competition.

Look forward to seeing you. For any queries, please ring Simon Hemingway 0404034768 or the Boating Office on 9599 0902.
