Labour Day Cruise

Labour Day Cruise in Company – Options.

It’s a great time to get out and socialise with others and have some fun on your boats before the summer ends. March in Victoria often provides some of the best sailing conditions of the year so make sure you take advantage and join us for our Labour Day Cruise.

We have two separate cruise options, both which start on the March Labour Day long weekend on Saturday 9 March. For those that need to be back to SYC after the weekend we have a 3 day Inside the Bay cruise returning to SYC on the Monday. For those that have more time and want to enjoy their boat some more we have planned an 8 night cruise to explore in and around Westernport and returning to SYC not later than 17 March.

Both cruise groups will meet up at Ken King Centre and Cruise in Company to Queenscliff and stay at QCYC on Saturday night. We plan to stoke up the Wood Fired pizza oven at QCYC and have a group Pizza Dinner along with a fun quiz on Saturday night.

Inside the Bay: 3 day cruise to QCYC 9 to 11 March

This Cruise travels to QCYC on Saturday the 9 of March to enjoy a slice of paradise at QCYC. Plan to enjoy all that Queenscliff has to offer on Sunday, or maybe just relax and enjoy the serenity of QCYC, before returning to SYC on Monday 11 March. We plan to get the Wood Fired pizza oven going for a Saturday Pizza & Salad night for $20 per head. This is a 3-day cruise option.

Outside the Bay: 9 day cruise to Western Port

This Cruise is designed for those with more time available and to take advantage of what is normally a great time of year to be sailing in Victorian waters. This year our plan is to go exploring the wonderful bay next door, Westernport. After a day of cruising and an evening of fun with the Inside the Bay Cruisers we plan to depart QCYC, weather permitting, Sunday morning in time for slack tide at the Port Phillip Heads. From the Heads we will point towards Westernport and sail on to our first planned anchorage at Cowes. Our plan is to keep the itinerary flexible, finalising anchorage locations based on weather and swell direction each day. As we explore Westernport we intend to take advantage of both anchorages and marinas including possible stays at HMAS Cerberus on Tuesday night and dinghy ashore. On Wednesday we hope to have a brief tour, followed by joint activities with the trainees in the afternoon. Depending on vessel draughts, we may also visit Warneet Yacht Club. The cruise returns to SYC on Sunday 17 March. This is a 9 day cruise in total.

Westernport locations:

Places being considered include locations for day visits/BBQ’s on the beach, overnight anchorages and possibly a marina or two. Westernport has plenty of safe anchoring locations, but we are also trying to set up a tour of HMAS Cerberus. If possible then we may stay at either the HMAS Cerberus wharf or the Westernport marina at Hastings for 1 or 2 nights and possibly for 1 night at the newly updated Yaringa harbour too. Cowes is also centrally located and can be a good place to stop in for provisions, maybe some fish & chips for a mid-day lunch. We also plan to use their great covered BBQ area for a group dinner.

A more detailed cruise itinerary will be provided to Registered Skippers in February.
