Junior Development Squad

Sandringham Yacht Club invites you to participate in the Junior Development & Coaching Program for the 2017-2018 Season.

This program is generously subsidised by the Yacht Club and is offered to all members at a very reasonable cost. Participation in Club racing is extremely important and as a squad member, you are expected to participate in Club racing once you reach an appropriate level of skill, in order to ensure your ongoing inclusion in the squad.

We would like to encourage all SYC junior sailors to take up this terrific opportunity, which is open to all supported SYC OTB classes.

Times and Dates: Coaching sessions will typically take place on a weekly basis as set out in the attached class specific schedules. Regular coaching will take place on Sunday mornings, and will include the Friday Twilight racing for all junior sailors enrolled in the JDS Optimist, Cadet and O’pen Bic program.

First years skippers who do not feel ready for racing will be encouraged to join the afternoon group (optimist green) that will start at 1:30 pm. This group may be escorted to the afternoon race area with a coach when the weather is suitable and the coach feels the group is capable, otherwise they will practice behind the breakwater.

We will also have a coach on Friday night Twilight racing to assist our first-year skippers to progress to racing.

Please note:
All JDS International Optimist, International Cadet and O’pen Bic participants are expected to attend the compulsory pre-season race briefing on Sunday 8th October at 11 am.
