MRV & SYC New Travelift a couple of nice looking assets

SYC member, Damien King recently had his stunning yacht MRV in the SYC boat yard for some general maintenance, including the installation of a new bow thruster.  The timing was spot on as we had recently taken delivery of a brand new travelift …..and they look awesome together.

MRV is the fifth and last in the Margaret Rintoul series and was built for Stan Edwards, a sailing figure of note during the 70s to 90s and who competed for Australia and internationally with previous Rintouls.  Damien purchased the yacht and MRV was delivered from Sydney to SYC approximately 12 months ago.  In that time she has been substantially refurbished with the works led by Andrew Henderson (America’s Cup legend and son of Life Member and Past Commodore, Geoff Henderson).

The MRV refurbishment has benefitted from the expertise of tenants Sandringham Marine with input from Offshore Marine, RopeAble, Marine & Industrial Rigging, Sundance Marine and JPM Macquet.  To complement the refurbishment, SYC member Aaron Cole of North Sails designed and delivered a full set of new sails.  One of the notable features of our boat yard this illustrates, is the range and breadth of trades both onsite and registered to work at SYC.

With an LOA of 18 m, beam of 5 m and draft of 3 m, MRV is a stunning looking yacht.  Over the past 12 months she has competed in local club races, the Sydney to Hobart, the Cabbage Tree Island Race, the King Island Race, the Apollo Bay Race and more.  MRV is and has been crewed by many experienced and gifted sailors, many of whom are lifelong SYC members.  They include Eliza Solly, Jeremy O’Connell, Mark Byrne, Mark Turnbull, Lockie Dare, JP Macquet, Grant Allen, Aaron Cole, Jon Orr, Andrew Plympton, Simon Cunnington, James Ware, Scott Walton, Dean Van Teylingen and Mark Willett as well as Nick Partridge, Matt Mullins and Ben Morrison-Jack.  MRV has also had a number of junior captains on the yacht, all of whom have done a fine job of steering the boat in a race or two.  The MRV crew have had a fun 12 months and they are looking forward to more adventures ahead.

The new SYC travelift is an Italian-built machine from globally renowned manufacturer Boat Lift and is now in operation.  All-wheel drive, wire hoists and remote controlled operation are nice improvements and features of the Boat Lift machine.  The boat yard team of Paul, Sean, Reece, Morgan and Henry were all trained by the Italian installation team and they are tasked with looking after all boat owners’ cherished vessels.

The travelift is just one of the recent investments the Club has made to enhance our service offering to boat owners.  Other works recently completed, ongoing or imminent, include the marina refurbishment plan, dredging, breakwater renourishment works, wavescreen protection works, sludge removal, the Sandringham Harbour planned improvement works as well as the Ken King Centre and marina entry refurbishment.
