Meet your 2021/2023 Ordinary Committee Members

Jack has been a member of SYC since April 2014 and an Ordinary Committee Member on General Committee since 2019.

Jack owns a J24, Two Dogs and his boating interests are Keelboat racing, Match racing and Recreational Sailing.  Since being a member at SYC, he has been a member of the Sail Committee, a Protest chair, on Regatta Juries and has volunteered at many Discover Sailing Days.

Jack is standing for his position on General Committee for a second term because he wants to play an active role in helping shape SYC’s future in both on water and off water capacities.  Additionally, he would like to provide input from a younger member’s perspective, creating accessible pathways and opportunities for young members to continue sailing and enjoying their time at SYC.

cathryn furey

 

Cathryn has been a member of SYC since March 1998 and an Ordinary Committee Member on General Committee since 2019.  Cathryn also served on General Committee in the role of OTB Club Captain between 2014 – 2016 and has been a member of the OTB Committee for a number of years.  

Cathryn is a current crew member of SYC boats Chainsaw and Patriot,  holds a Club Race Officer qualification and has been a regular OTB Race Management volunteer for close to 15 years.

Cathryn is standing for her position on General Committee for a second term because she is an immensely proud member of SYC.  Through her involvement, along with her family, in all facets of club life, she has built lifelong friendships and gained invaluable experiences and opportunities.  As a member of General Committee, Cathryn values the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing success of our outstanding club and represent and support the members.

PHIL gomez

 

Phil is passionate about boating and is standing for a position on General Committee to contribute his skills for the ongoing success of SYC and the benefit of its members.  Phil’s career in the resources and banking sectors gave him considerable experience in managing engineering businesses and corporate transactions.  Now retired, Phil has a wide range of business skills to complement those of General Committee.

Phil has been a member of SYC since 2004 and became an Ordinary Committee Member on General Committee earlier this year.  

Phil owns a Beneteau First 45, Debonnaire, and his boating interests include Sunday Sailors and Wednesday Wonders keelboat racing.  Phil volunteers his time on Saturdays and during major regattas to lay marks for Race Management.  He also makes his boat available for Discover Sailing days and the Mercedes-Benz Brighton Port Phillip Challenge.  Phil and wife Catherine are also regulars at club social events.

SIMON HEMINGWAY

 

Simon has been a member of SYC since 2008 and served on General Committee from 2018 – 2020 in the capacity of Recreational Boating Club Captain.  Simon was also a member on the Recreational Boating Committee for four years and served as the Cruise Director for three seasons whilst on this committee.

Simon owns a Jeanneau 40, Winsome and his racing interests are Sunday Sailors and Thursday Twilights.  Simon and his crew attend the majority of the Recreational Boating Cruise in Companies and Raft-Ups and are very active participants in all Recreational Boating activities. Prior to owning WinsomeSimon part owned a Spencer 30, Moncouer, which was actively involved in racing at SYC.

Simon is standing for General Committee to contribute to SYC in a constructive manner.  Simon would like to contribute to and, where appropriate, seek information or suggest alternative courses of action.  He wishes to also assist in the running of the club in off Committee actions like contributing to specific projects and to continue to support in what he believes is, a very well run club.

PHIL simpfendorfer

 

Phil has been a member of SYC since 1999 and an Ordinary Committee Member on General Committee since 2017.

Phil owns a J111, Veloce III and his racing interests are Saturday Aggregate and Thursday Twilights.  Phil also volunteers his time and his boat for the Mercedes-Benz Brighton Port Phillip Challenge.

Phil is standing for his position on General Committee to contribute to the ongoing success of SYC and to benefit it’s members.
