Major Success for SYC at the Victorian Sailing Awards!

Saturday, 2nd June 2018

Sandringham Yacht Club was definitely in the spotlight last night at the Victorian Sailing Awards hosted by Australian Sailing and Sandringham Yacht Club! The annual presentation provides the opportunity to reflect upon the last 12 months and celebrate the success of individual, team and club performances and achievements. Sandringham was fortunate to have a large number of it’s members and staff being nominated as finalists as well as being in the running for a number of club awards. In summary, here’s how the night turned out for SYC and it’s members:

  • Sandringham Yacht Club – Club of the year

  • Club Marine Sandringham Yacht Club Boating Academy – Discover Sailing Centre of the year

  • Club Marine Sandringham Yacht Club Boating Academy – Discover Sailing Program of the year (which was determined from our annual Discover Sailing Day in November 2017)

  • Megan Aulich – Women and Girls in Sailing Local Hero award

  • George Shaw – Services to Yachting award

  • David McCutcheon – Motor Yachtsperson of the year

  • Ricky Deghi (staff) – Contribution to Junior and Youth Sailing

Other SYC nominees who were named as finalists but unfortunately not successful included:

  • Stewart Simmons – Services to Yachting
  • Rod Warren – Keelboat Sailor of the year
  • Hugo Ottaway – Keelboat Sailor of the year
  • Jack Challands – Junior Sailor of the year

Congratulations to all of above members on your nominations and awards where applicable, and also to all of the fantastic members at SYC who contributed to making the last 12 months so successful! Well done all!
