Dear OTB sailors and friends,

As you may have read in the most recent email from the Club relating to the latest easing of restrictions, we can now conduct racing albeit with some limitations imposed. Regardless, we are extremely excited to get as many of our OTB sailors on the water as we are permitted to do so.

One of the major changes for our younger sailors is that those 18 years or younger can now sail together if they sail in a double handed boat. This follows announcements that the 1.5m distancing rule is not in effect for those in this age bracket. So for our junior and youth double handed sailors, you can now train and race with no limitations on group sizes.

For our adult double handed classes, unfortunately the 1.5m distancing rule still needs to be adhered to. Therefore, it’s looking like 20 July is the date to aim for! For skipper and crew combinations where you live together, you can continue to sail together as you do not need to adhere to the 1.5m rule. Additionally, it’s important to note that we are limited to a maximum of 20 participants in a competition.

Given the above, we are looking to run regular racing when the weather permits and are planning to kick it off this Sunday with a 12.30pm start. The racing session will last for approximately 90 minutes with several short sprint races planned. Given it is winter and to ensure that people aren’t missing out if they can’t make it on a particular weekend, we will be running each race day as its own series (i.e. this Sunday there could be 5 races sailed and the series score would be for the races sailed on that day only).

Here are the details:

• Racing will be starting no earlier than 12.30pm on Sunday with a briefing at 11.30am – the wind forecast is looking good!

• There will be a series of short sprint races sailed on the day creating a mini-series.

• Divisions and courses will be notified at the briefing.

• The number of boats/sailors for those 18 years and under will not be restricted. We hope to have a coach on the water to assist those who are less experienced.

• There will be a strict limit of 20 participants (people, not boats) for those 19 years and older and these spots will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

• All sailors must complete the online registration form.

• In addition to the above sailor registration, if you have entered in any of the OTB series this season, you don’t need to enter your boat. If not, you can do so through the below link.

• Classes will be required to rig in separate areas to avoid large clusters in the OTB rigging area (see attachment).

• Change rooms will be open but we are asking that those 18 years and younger use OTB and those 19 years or older use the Ken King Centre. Please ensure you maintain 1.5m distance from other people.

• The plan is that racing will conclude at approximately 2.00pm to enable sailors and volunteers to get back ashore, pack up and head upstairs for a meal. If you wanted to do so, please make sure you book with SYC reception on 9599 0999.

• If you are unwell, you should not come to the Club.

• Please consider downloading the COVIDSafe App.

• Everyone should make sure that their boats are thoroughly washed afterwards. A hot soapy wash is recommended!
