S80 Victorian Championship

8- 10 January 2016

“INTRUSION” all class in the S80, one class, State Championship.

Congratulations to Luke Reinehr and his crew; Michael Keusgen, Michael Reinehr, Aaron Cole and Cameron Way. They showed consistent and dominant form to take out the 2016 S80 State Championship.

A fleet of 17 began the State Championship last Friday at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club. Competition across the fleet was very tight, with places being decided by margins as low as 1 second.

Luke has been sailing “Intrusion” for 17 years and has won the State Championship 10 times. That is a very impressive record in a competitive class. “Intrusion” is constantly hard pressed by the other skippers, yet they manage the 1%ers better than the rest and shine through the pack. In one race they were 16th (second last) yet managed to claw back to 5th. Even Luke will admit that it has never been easy winning the S80 State Championship.

Although a clear winner in the end, winning 5 of the 7 heats, nine different S80s finished in the top three heat places, over the three day Championship.

Well done Luke and the crew. We have it on good authority that you displayed 1st class sportsmanship and were always there to provide help and advice to the new skippers in the S80 fleet. Well done “Intrusion”

The results for other Sandringham boats were; “Imaginer” 4th and “Jack Tar” 7th.

A big thank you to SYC member John Robertson for the article and photo.
