February Recreational Boating Guest Speaker

Wednesday, 11th January 2017

Mark Kinder

RECREATIONAL BOATING GUEST SPEAKER

Wednesday 8 February ~ 7:30pm ~ PPR

Mark Kinder was born in Melbourne on the 10th of January 1950.

Between 1968 and 1974 Mark served with the Royal Australian Navy aboard the guided missile Destroyer HMAS Brisbane during the Vietnam War on the gun-line of the South China Sea.

During a SEATO exercise in 1969 Mark was on duty and on watch aboard the RAN’s Flagship HMAS Melbourne the night she collided with the American Destroyer USS Frank E. Evans with 74 lives lost.

Like many ADF veterans of the Vietnam War Mark returned damaged and feared admitting to anyone he was a veteran of the Vietnam War because of the hostile attitudes toward servicemen and women who served in that war.

These days Mark is very proud to be a Vietnam Veteran and is now spending a lot of his retired time assisting and supporting others in the Veteran Community. He says, “helping others helps yourself – it’s the Aussie thing to do”.

Please join us to hear his remarkable and passionate story.
