As part of the Club’s increased efforts on environmental and sustainability management, we are hosting an E-waste disposal day for your small e-waste items to raise awareness to recycle and minimise the amount of this waste going to landfill.
Date: Sunday 19 June
Time: 9am to 5pm.
Drop Off Location: Club’s training auditorium on the ground floor under the carpark
Here are a few FAQs:
- What is E-waste? E-waste is any item with a plug, cord, or battery.
- What can I bring? Any small E-waste item that could fit inside your bin at home. Please no white goods (e.g., No washing machines, dishwashers, freezers etc). Refer to the list below of permitted items.
- Why is SYC doing this? To provide an opportunity for members to ensure E-waste is disposed of properly and that any precious metals contained therein are re-used. We will also provide information on the day of where to take your E-waste going forward using the facilities available from your local council (Bayside, Kingston, Port Phillip).
- Where is the E-waste going? A local E-waste specialist (based in Mentone) will collect and recycle the items.
- Why does E-waste need to be treated differently? E-waste is banned from your General waste or Recycling bin at home. It is important to reclaim and recycle the precious materials from E-waste, to help reduce the need to mine them from the Earth.
