All the things necessary for race were in place. Handicaps had been published; a course selected; the initial start signal had sounded; and the early starters were ready to cross the start line when a squall arrived causing the race to be abandoned.  The change in conditions was significant and occurred in a short space of time. It was Port Philip living up to its reputation. It wasn’t the only squall of the afternoon as a stronger one was to follow about 1500. Race 6 became the second race of the series to be abandoned.
