Calling all SYC Youth and Intermediate Members!

Thursday, 21st March 2019

Sandringham Yacht Club (SYC) is seeking expressions of interest from Youth and Intermediate members who may be interested in representing SYC at the National Sailing League in Sydney between the 25-28 April 2019 out of the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron (RSYS).

The idea behind the National Sailing League is to offer clubs from the Australian, New Zealand and Oceania regions to compete against one another. The winning teams in each of the youth, women’s and open categories will then be selected to represent the southern region of the world in the Champions Sailing League, racing off against the best clubs from around the world.

The National Sailing League will be sailed in RSYS’ Elliot 7’s with open teams consisting of up to four people on board including a skipper. Women and youth teams are eligible to sail with up to five crew (including skipper). For a youth crew, all crew members must be under the age of 22 years old as at 1 January 2020.

If you are a current Junior or Intermediate member of SYC and would be interested in applying to be a part of SYC’s youth/intermediate teams, please register your interest with James Sly at [email protected] by no later than 5pm on Sunday 31 March. Please include a brief summary of your sailing experience as well as a bio about yourself that we can use for media purposes should you be successfully chosen to represent SYC. We can accept team entries should you wish to apply as a team!

It is intended that SYC will enter two teams with the hope that one of these will be eligible for the youth category (under 22 years of age as at the 1 January 2020). It is hoped that SYC can put forward a second consisting of Intermediate aged members of SYC.
