OTHER HISTORY
YEAR | DESCRIPTION |
1988 | Owner Kevin Wood took Midnight Magic north to compete in the Pittwater - Coffs Harbour race. During the delivery north, approaching Gabo Is at dusk, Midnight Magic was hit by a severe storm, during which Kevin damaged his shoulder when coming off watch at dawn. This eventful trip continued when Midnight Magic was very nearly hit by a coastal freighter when sailing parallel to the shipping lane off the coast of NSW. For the Coffs Harbour race itself, Midnight Magic was fitted with a skin water thermostat to monitor water temperature, which is a key component to avoid the fast flowing southerly current. This device proved very valuable as Midnight Magic played the current well and won the race on IOR by a considerable margin - beating many of the 40'-45' boats over the line. During the return trip to Sydney, Midnight Magic spent a number of months cruising around Broken Bay and Sydney Harbour. |
Present | Kevin Wood sold Midnight Magic in 1989, however she remains at SYC and is currently owned by Bernadette Moore. At the time of writing (Nov 2020) Midnight Magic is still a regular competitor in the Wednesday Wonders racing. |
