OTHER HISTORY

YEAR DESCRIPTION
1988 Owner Kevin Wood took Midnight Magic north to compete in the Pittwater - Coffs Harbour race. During the delivery north, approaching Gabo Is at dusk, Midnight Magic was hit by a severe storm, during which Kevin damaged his shoulder when coming off watch at dawn. This eventful trip continued when Midnight Magic was very nearly hit by a coastal freighter when sailing parallel to the shipping lane off the coast of NSW. For the Coffs Harbour race itself, Midnight Magic was fitted with a skin water thermostat to monitor water temperature, which is a key component to avoid the fast flowing southerly current. This device proved very valuable as Midnight Magic played the current well and won the race on IOR by a considerable margin - beating many of the 40'-45' boats over the line. During the return trip to Sydney, Midnight Magic spent a number of months cruising around Broken Bay and Sydney Harbour.
Present Kevin Wood sold Midnight Magic in 1989, however she remains at SYC and is currently owned by Bernadette Moore. At the time of writing (Nov 2020) Midnight Magic is still a regular competitor in the Wednesday Wonders racing.
