DESCRIPTION |
1995-1999 |
Lou was attracted to buy this yacht mainly because of result of the first MBD yacht built - “Raptor” - which won the 1994 Sydney to Hobart in IMS. The development of the rating systems at the time (IMS and CHS) appeared to place more emphasis on accommodation, and this design featured separate cabins aft. The narrow beam with large masthead spinnakers proved very exciting for the crew sailing downwind in a breeze. Known to nose dive but nevertheless a comfortable, fast cruiser-racer. Whilst designed to meet anticipated rating changes, the outright racing designs rating prevailed and results were not as forthcoming as Lou hoped. In 1999 the boat was sold to a USA owner and the boat was shipped to the Great Lakes region, Chicago USA.. |
1995-1999 |
Participated in Kenwood Cup, then sailed home from Hawaii. Competed in a number of Hamilton island Regattas. Competed in 5 Sydney to Hobarts (1995-12th IMS; 1996-17th IMS; 1997-19th IMS; 1998-4th CHS; 1999-5th IRC)) with best result in the 1998 storm-affected race, finishing 4th overall under CHS handicap. Boat survived the storm without any damage. |
