OTHER HISTORY

YEAR DESCRIPTION
1979-Present Bacardi has had a long and colourful life. She was built in the back of Middle Brighton Motors workshop in Brighton in 5 months with the aim of contesting the 1979 Australian Admirals Cup trials. Much of the labour was provided by the crew, some of whom are still SYC members – John Williams, Hugh Halliburton and Andrew Arblaster. Hundreds of people have either began or extended their sailing careers on “The Bus,” as she is affectionately known.
1979-Present Bacardi has sailed in a record 28 Sydney-Hobarts
