Blue Water Winners

Friday, 15th January 2016

Some of our members have represented Sandy very well over the Christmas break/ New Year break in the blue water races.

Chris Mrakas and the Challenge team did a sterling effort in the Sydney to Hobart. I was in the bar when Challenge returned to Sandy and the crew looked exhausted but happy. It is a great effort to even get to the start line for the Sydney to Hobart and to finish that gruelling race is such an achievement.

The first night of this year’s Hobart race was a horror and nearly a third of the fleet retired but not our Myuna. This was the second attempt the boat has made at the iconic race and Geoff Nixon was determined under his skippering, the boat would finish – and finish she did. It was probably a quiet New Year’s eve out to sea but celebrations after the finish on New Year’s Day would have made up for it.

In the race across the paddock to Devonport Daniel Edwards on White Noise had wins in all handicap divisions and won the Rudder Cup … the 5th oldest ocean race in the world.

Marty Powers on the legendary Bacardi once again persevered in winds that were just too light for such a dependable boat.
